Article 7 of the New York State Agriculture and Market Law requires that all dogs older than 4 months be licensed. Licensing ensures that all dogs have been properly vaccinated against rabies for the protection of both you and your neighbors. If your dog is spayed/ neutered the fee is $6.00 per year. If the dog is not spayed/neutered the fee is $15.00 per year.
If your dog is unlicensed and/or is caught running at large the dog is subject to seizure and you are subject to a court appearance and a fine, as well as redemption fees from the shelter.
